More stuff
to do around the boat this morning, including another shopping expedition to
Lidl – whose own brand Queen Margot whisky, by the way, proves to be both
palatable and affordable.
After
lunch, we decided to take a trip in the car, and drove back up the Rhine to the
Loreley, eager to see what it looks like from the top of the cliff, having
experienced the bottom.
This is the
statue of the lady, who I understand lured sailors onto the rocks: perhaps
understandably they lost their concentration.
Here’s a
double coal barge pushing upstream,
and to illustrate
the density of traffic, here Diana caught five boats in a single frame.
Incidentally I calculated there were 150 or so containers on the last one, taking
quite a few lorries off the road.
One of our
pix inadvertently included a castle – sorry about that:
After all
that excitement, we decided to cross the river on one of the many ferries that
weave in and out of the barges and cruise ships:
Making our
way back to the mooring we passed through the wine town of Boppard, and couldn’t
resist stopping for a glass of Riesling…..no surprises there!
Tomorrow we
are heading over to Regensburg to meet up with our friends from the US, so the
blog will take a break. We plan to be back on board on Friday, setting sail again on
Saturday, so normal service will be resumed Saturday evening.
I was suffering castle-withdrawal symptoms for a day or two there! Keep them coming.
